The Seafarers was put together by Ferris, the fabulous Jim Dirschenberger, and I. We used Illustrator for the character design, which was then animated in Aftereffects. Enjoy!

LAyer cake
ok, well, it's been a long few days-
first i got the hairs fixed over at barber lounge again by gibb- pictures this time- it's pretty over there.
this is gibb- and the awesome barber shop off to the right-
i love the colors!
and this nice little montage of inspiring ladies
we flew to la,
started our trip at black market, then down to lab 101, and headed over to the mark ryden tree show at michael kohn gallery. i love mark ryden, and it was so amazing to see his work in person. it has been really interesting to watch him- he went to school for illustration, i believe- anyways- they had his little sketches and a toy train. everything was sold, of course.... i =wonder what he's going for these days?
and then stopped for a milkshake at swingers.
went to the billabong deal (see previous post), then to the burgundy room with cynthia, friend gwen and andre.

then we slept, grabbed lunch at m cafe de chaya- which is the best food ever- and it's macrobiotic (good for you). and then checked out opening ceremony, and bought striped knee socks with red spots on the knees! that place rules!
anyways, then back to sf, got to go to the academy of art college fashion show for their graduating class.... rather boring, but there were some standout knit robot people. i will see if i can find pictures. amazing!
the academy was giving doctorates to zac posen and loulou de la falaise- who were both spectacular in person.
i then painted all day saturday- and delivered a show sunday morning (more on that next post). needless to say, i'm exhausted..... but happy!

New Pieces

and this one is a work for a family who commssions portraits of their girls every two years- a different artist every time. such a great idea.
so this month is so random. i hope to be back on some kind of regular schedule soon. don't get me wrong, i love adventures and all the work, but there's so much coming together right now that it just bends my mind!

Working away....
Ferris and I have the January show at 111 minna in san francisco in the front room- it opens January 4th (opening is 5-late. hope you can come!) , and we're just in the studio a lot these days- sorry for lack of posts. Anyways, the new works are my takes on religious imagery (there's really a lot of great symbology to play with. i have always been hugely fascinated by the drama and romance and glamour of catholicism- i was always jealous of those kids for getting to sit in those amazing cathedrals, youknow...)- i'm reinventing a few saints for the show, and ferris is taking on the seven deadly sins through the eyes of dante.
I've learned a lot while researching for this show- it seemed a strange theme to take on- i wouldn't necessarily call myself religious by any traditional means, though i was raised methodist.
it makes sense for many reasons- art is rooted in religion in so so many ways- the times in art that i like most are traditional tibetan work (it pretty much has stayed the same) and 1500 1600's european stuff . bosch, jan van eyck- back then if you had artwork, you were either a church or really really rich, or alternatly you were really rich and comissioned a piece for your local church or cathedral to atone for your sins, or to show devotion to a particular saint. in which case, the artist would represent you in some way in the piece. though it seems like a lot of the donors got painted out later down the line, for easier sale....
churches comissioned bigger altar pieces for mass contemplation, and smaller icons were for contemplation on a very personal scale, so i've kept the pieces pretty small for the most part. there are a few bigger ones, but i like having these on a smaller scale, so they're a little closer- i like the miniature nature of some russian icons, though the ones i am making are a little larger than those.
those are my thoughts for the moment, perhaps not so cohesive, but everything is coming together in the right ways. trust me!

Thursday Openings
Thursday Openings in San Francisco
I am going to be attending both of these openings, which both feature new works, just in time for the holidays.
First, Hotel des Arts has a group show featuring 20 ladies. The piece below is in their auction to support casa da las madres, San Francisco's oldest and largest organization dedicated to providing services to victims of domestic violence. 447 Bush Street at Grant. 5-10 pm.
Then on to 111 At 111
Group show featuring 111 Artists at 111 Minna Gallery @ 2nd.
Opens 7 December, 2006. 5-late!
